Uli's 2018

Winter Break 2018 -- GERMANY and SWITZERLAND.  Onions and I decided, WHY NOT?

We flew on Christmas Day and landed in Frankfurt on the 26th.  Our first stop was Bruhl Castle. On the 27th, we got up early, took a walk in the gardens, saw this beautiful light on the facade.....and found out it was closed for December and January.  Oops.  The trip started slow, for various reasons, and this was one of them.

The highlight of the first part of the trip was a couple nights hanging out with Uli's family!

Josefina, on the left, is a high school graduate and speaks perfect English.  She's trying to figure out how to get to the United States.  Jonah on the has one more year of high school, 10th grade, and then gets a German diploma.  He will probably go back and get a higher level high school diploma.  Uli and Alex continue to teach.

Yes, Jonah is INCREDIBLY tall.  He might still be growing.

During our stay in Nuremburg with Uli's family, we took a day trip to the cute town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.  This was Onions first experience of "charming" Europe.

We arrived in Nuremburg just as the Christmas markets closed (bummer) but it's Christmas all year around in Rothenburg. Here's the Christmas store.

Our day in Rothenburg was the only sunny day with blue skies we had during the first half of the trip.

Breakfast at Uli's.

Dinner's were the best. First night, spaetzle.  And then we had schnitzel and kartoffelsalad (potato salad) the second.  Uli and Alex are getting a sabbatical next year and planning on traveling to Japan, SE Asia and North America!
