Forbidden City

This building, facing Tiananmen Square isn't actually part of The Forbidden City, but it is where Mao, in 1949 from above his picture, declared the the country of China belonged to the people

Entering through the Meridian Gate

That's me walking along the main North-South Axis of The Forbidden City and all of Beijing.  Apparently, during ceremonies, only the Emperor could step on this walkway.

The Hall of Supreme Harmony, the largest and most important structure in The Forbidden City.
On each building, on the corner eaves, monkeys are placed.  The greater number of monkeys, the more important the building.

Throughout The Forbidden City there are these metal urns.  They were used to store water in case of fire.  All the buildings in The Forbidden City are made of wood.

An emperor had the ability to determine units of measure.  This cylinder was a unit of volume.
