Angel's Landing

Waking up to a new day.

Turns out Onions has taken to camping!  And like everything else, he's good at it.  We didn't cook on this trip, just brought along a camp stove to heat up water for tea in the mornings.

Sunrise with a view!

This is how you take advantage of your deluxe powered site when you just use it for camping.  Turns out those around us who plugged in thereby didn't need to have loud generators, which kept everything quiet.

Zion, because it is one road into the valley and one road out, runs a shuttle system.  At the visitor's center, the line was estimated to be about 45 minutes, so we hiked into the museum stop to catch the shuttle without the line.  Here's the view into the valley.

Our goal today was to hike Angel's Landing, which is the top of the tall spire seen above.

I hiked up to Scout's Observatory and stopped.  Why?

The last half mile is a rock scramble along a thin ledge with sharp drop offs on both sides.

Yeah, with my issues of balance, this wasn't for me.  These pictures are courtesy of Onions.

The view back down the valley from Angel's Landing.

With some extra time in the afternoon (long days, sunsets at 730!) we headed over to the little visited Kolob Canyon Section of the park.

Back to the canyon to watch the sunset as it hit "The Watchman," for which our campsite is named.
