Capsule Hotel

In many of the large cities in Japan there are Capsule Hotels.  Let's take a tour.

Here in the lobby, you are required to put your shoes in a locker.  At that point you check-in.

The 9-Hours Capsule Hotel in Kyoto has 9 floors.  Women sleep on floors 3 and 4 and men on 6 through 8.  Men and women take separate elevators.

What's on floor 9 you ask? (or floor 5 for women)  Up on the ninth floor are lockers in which you store your luggage.

The showers and sinks to wash up are also located on the ninth floor.  Capsule hotels follow the tradition of providing sleepwear.

So here, on the sixth floor, is where Onions and I slept.  And this is where the name capsule hotel comes from.  In this room are about 25 pods in which guests sleep.

This is what a capsule looks like as you enter it.  At the far end is a panel which has plugs to charge your electronics, your light switch and an alarm clock.

From the inside looking out.

To get privacy, you can pull down a screen and you are now enveloped in your capsule.  Overall the capsule hotel was a unique experience and the only issue I had was that there was no way control the temperature (I was hot) in the capsule.
