Mid-Trip Weekend in Denver

Rolling into Denver for the weekend without any definitive plan, Onions and I took advantage of free first of the month Saturday's at the Denver Art Museum.

Onions was MUCH better at the see-saw lounge chair than I was.

As with most museums these days, I find the architecture and the space more interesting than some of the installations themselves.

One piece that really moved me was an installation where the Dream Act was sung and put to music.  People were invited to sit down and read the text of the Dream Act.  Also, you can see that the outline of the southern United States is projected.
This is a trend I'm seeing.....people are being asked to post their pics and reactions on social media, which are then posted next to a/the piece of art.

Yes, the piece IS the statement about being "Made in China"

So there was a display of lamps from all around the world.  All of them from different materials and shapes.  I saw one that looked like it was made by a high-school ceramics students (the one with the base that looks like a colored volcano) and said to myself..."that must be by and Italian."  Nailed it.

Saw this, texted Yvonne below.

Now just having some fun!

The pillows....from Crate and Barrel.

There was a LARGE collection about items that were from the mid-century modern period.  Here we have "form before function."

My childhood toys are now worthy of display as historical art in a museum!

All I see here is, myself, setting drinks on the armrests and having lots of spill stains.

The last installation we saw was a number of paintings by a young artist who painted subjects in Harlem looking DIRECTLY at the viewer.

After the museum, we spent a few hours in the Lodo district.

Grabbed some Chinese food and then walked down the 16th Street pedestrian mall.  About 3/4th the way down, Onions said "the shops are the same, not interesting."
We finished the day high in the hills above Boulder.
