Kenai Fjords National Park -- Exit Glacier

The big summer trip of 2017..... ALASKA!  We flew into Anchorage and drove south to Seward to tick off the Kenai Fjords National Park.  This park has only ONE ROAD into it and it's the spur in the top right that goes into the Northwestern corner of the park.

The one road into Kenai Fjords National Park approaches the Exit Glacier as seen from a few miles away.

Onions ready with bear spray!  By the end of the trip his fear of bears diminished, but at the beginning here....BEARS BEARS BEARS!!

As we hiked up to Exit Glacier, we were treated to a ranger talk who mentioned many times that the glacier is retreating and it might be cyclical or it might be anthropomorphic.....but I was mostly amazed by the braiding of the Resurrection River.

As we drove into the park and along the walk we kept seeing these markers....which turned out to be the year at which the glacier extended to that point.  The 1917 sign sits on a glacial moraine.

At the point, as we walk up the river, we are about the 1940's extent of the glacier.

We didn't get to walk on the glacier....that came later in the trip!

After the visit to Exit Glacier, we entered Seward right on Resurrection Bay.  This photo was taken around 930PM.....land of the midnight sun!
