Across Russia Leg 1 -- St. Petersburg to Moscow

Moscow Station in St. Petersburg.  We are crossing Russia in four segments.  The first is an 8-hour overnight express train from St. Petersburg to Moscow.

Our ticket!  Basically, all I needed was to find our train number, our seat/bed number and my name.

System Map (partial I'm guessing) of the Russian train system.

We took #3 leaving at 23:59

Moscow -- St. Petersburg

Riding the train in Russia is a REGAL experience.  Each car has an attendant, who welcomes you on board.  Plus the music in the station was so uplifting. It wasn't the Russian Anthem (which I love) but in that same vein that I wanted to stand up and salute and march with my chest out.

DD getting set up in the "kupe"

Traveling 2nd class, there are four berths in a "kupe".  The odd numbered berths are the lower ones.  Storage is under the seat.

The back of the bench folds down to be the bed of for the lower bunks.  We had the entire "kupe" to ourselves for this section of the journey.

Each train car has a "samovar" which provides hot water at all times.

Sleepy head catching a few extra winks as we pull into Leningrad Station in Moscow.
