Yosemite -- Upper Yosemite Falls

Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls.  We climbed to the top of falls!

Turns out, Onions hikes like a mountain goat. He is nice enough to slow down so I don't feel bad about being slow.

And he is the kind of hiker that goes back to put stones in a water crossing to help the next hikers.

Halfway up.....still sunny.  Still have that wall of rock to climb.

At the top......we walked up that!

And then the clouds rolled in.

Looking over the top of the Upper Yosemite Falls.

Yosemite -- Scenes From the Tunnel View

Spring Break 2016!  4 Days in Yosemite.  Alas, the sun only came come out to play for a few moments during our visit.  Here's the view into the valley from the Tunnel View on each of the mornings we drove into the park.

Big Basin Redwoods

Sunday in the spring with no plans?  It's why I love Onions.  9:20, I jump on him in bed, tell him, let's go hiking down near Santa Cruz.  9:38 we are in the car on our way!

Big Basin Redwoods is home to some coastal Redwoods (the same ones as up north near Oregon) and California's first (as in oldest) state park.

We hiked along the "Skyline to Sea" trail (which is a famous three day, two-night hike which I hopefully will get Onions to do someday).

The hike through the trees.....

Can't have mud on our shoes now....

The famed bananaslug, Onions' first!

About four miles in, we turned the corner to see Berry Creek Falls.

In and out in about three and a half hours.  Beautiful day.  Yosemite in a few weeks!

California Central Coast

Three day weekend!  Friday night, Onions and I are discussing what we might want to do.  Yosemite?  Tahoe?  Both have no place relatively inexpensive to stay last minute.  Then I remembered that my friend David C. was down in LA on business.  Gave him a call and we arranged to meet halfway for a weekend on the Central California Coast.  We met just around sunset on Saturday afternoon.

Sunset over Morro Bay...and Morro Rock.

Sunrise and waves from the Cayucos Pier.

The trip was centered around a tour of the Hearst Castle.  Here Onions and I are in front of one of the guest cottages!

The famed Neptune Pool.  It's got a 3,000 a day gallon leak that they are trying to fix.

Towers of the main house.

This is one of my favorite selfies....it's because I so often cut off Onions.  I usually delete them, but this was too funny, I have to post it.
